Subject: 2025 Arthur B. Chapman Lecturer in Animal Breeding
and Genetics
Date: Mon, 14 Apr 2025 16:53:25 -0500
The 2025 AB Chapman Lecturer in Animal Breeding and Genetics is Dr. Juan
Pedro Steibel (see below for more details).
The 2025 AB Chapman Lectures will be held on Monday, April 28, at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Steibel will present a seminar titled
'Behavioral Phenotyping for Selecting Animals Better Adapted to Group-
Living Conditions' at 4:00 PM Central Time in Room 1111 of the MSABD
building on the UW-Madison campus. A live stream of the presentation
will also be available; the link will be shared soon.
Juan Pedro Steibel is the J. L. Lush Endowed Chair of Animal Breeding &
Genetics, Department of Animal Science, Iowa State University. Steibel
received his B.S. in agronomy and an M.S. in Biometry from Argentina,
and a Ph.D. in Animal Science from Michigan State University. Juan
investigates development, adaptation, and application of statistical
and computational methods to advance animal production and breeding
by integrating multi-omics data streams. His current and past research
spans expression QTL mapping, genotype imputation, genome-wide
association analyses, and high-throughput behavioral phenotyping and
its use to estimate social interaction effects in group-housed pigs.
His work is methodologically innovative and driven by the needs of the
livestock genetics and production industries. In 2023 Steibel received
the Innovation in Animal Breeding and Genetics Award from the American
Society of Animal Science.
The A.B. Chapman Lectures in Animal Breeding and Genetics have been
presented annually since 1994 by leading world scholars in the various
fields related to the genetic improvement of livestock.
